TISI (มอก.) and Importing — What Business Owners Must Know

For importers of electrical appliances, electronics, or industrial goods, “TISI (มอก.)” is another important thing to understand.

What Is TISI?

TISI (มอก.) stands for the Thai Industrial Standards, set by the Thai Industrial Standards Institute (TISI) to control product quality and safety. There are both general standards and mandatory standards.

Goods Often Under Mandatory Standards

  • Home electrical appliances (fans, rice cookers, etc.)
  • Wiring, plugs, and electrical accessories
  • Children’s toys
  • Certain steel products and construction materials

Goods under a mandatory standard must obtain a license before import.

How to Prepare

  1. Check whether your product is on the mandatory-standards list
  2. Apply for an import license (TISI) with the institute
  3. Product testing may be required as specified
  4. Prepare your documents for customs clearance

What Happens Without TISI

Goods that require TISI but lack a license cannot clear import procedures and may be held or returned — a costly outcome.
